OUR REVIEW

  DEUCES WILD
Deuces Wild is a common wild card Video Poker game that has spawned a lot of variations. Players using optimal strategy on an original full-pay version of Deuces Wild can expect a long term payout of 100.76%, which is one of the few games in the casino where the player has an advantage over the house.

In Deuces Wild, all four 2’s are wild cards. They can represent any card value or suit that is necessary to complete a winning hand. Since it is easier to get good hands, the payout table has been adjusted from a standard Jacks or Better payout table. Also, because there are four wild cards, new winning hands have been added to the payout table: Four Deuces, Wild Royal Flush and Five of a Kind. A full-pay Deuces Wild machine has the pay table displayed to the right. Notice the bonus for getting a Royal Flush when playing 5 coins.

Variations on the above pay table almost always result in a lower long term payout. The most common change is found on machines paying 4 instead of 5 coins for a Four-of-a-Kind. Since a Four-of-a-Kind is the hand that contributes the most to the long-term payout of this game, this change reduces the long term payout by almost 6.5% !

  STRATEGY FOR DEUCES WILD
To use the strategy at right, start at the top of the list and find the cards that describe your initial hand. Discard the cards that are not in the description. The expected value is listed after the hands and is per coin, assuming five coins played.

For a less complicated strategy that offers a 99.53% payback we highly recommend “Video Poker — Optimum Play”, by Dan Paymar.

BASIC TIPS

• Never discard a Deuce, even if you a initially dealt a Wild Royal Flush with one Deuce.

• Try to find a machine with a full-pay pay table. If you are in Las Vegas, you are more likely to find this type of machine in downtown casinos as opposed to Strip casinos.

• Always play max coins to take advantage of the bonus for a Royal Flush. If you do not play max coins, the long term payout for Deuces Wild drops to 99.54%.

• Be prepared to throw away all five cards on after the initial deal. This will happen about one out of every five hands (as opposed to Jacks or Better where it happens less than one out of every 30 hands).

TERMS USED
